Fertilization
Fertilizing Each plant in the landscape competes for space and nutrients with the neighboring plant regardless of type or species.  Some even produce chemicals that are exuded from roots to restrict growth of nearby plants. Unlike their counterparts in wooded settings, urban trees and shrubs have no natural source of nutrients because the soil is depleted due to lack of decomposing leaves and competition with lawns.  (Contrary to general thinking, most tree roots are in the top two feet of soil.)
Without these vital nutrients, trees and shrubs become stressed and more susceptible to diseases, insect infestations, drought and other environmental problems.  Fertilization increases the plant's vigor, which helps ward off disease and health problems and provides for a longer life.

Insect & Disease Control
Insects and diseases can become serious threats to your tree's health.  As soon as any abnormality in your tree's appearance is noticed, a careful analysis should be done in order to diagnose the problem and begin proper treatments.  In such cases, our Certified Arborists and staff Ph.D. will provide you with an expert diagnosis and assist you in determining the best, most cost-effective options available. The best plan, however, is to be proactive by practicing preventive maintenance and seasonal monitoring to ensure your trees' and shrubs' continued health.  Most often, proactive preventive practices cost considerably less than reactive interventions.  Our highly trained staff can design a cost effective, preventive maintenance program specific to your needs and budget.   And, professional plant maintenance can actually pay for itself when considering how much healthy, beautiful plants add to property values.

Soil Fracturing
Soil compaction from heavy construction equipment, vehicle traffic and frequent foot traffic through a tree's root zone decreases the oxygen supply to the tree, changes the drainage pathways, and obstructs nutrient intake.  Each of these causes the tree stress, leaving it susceptible to disease and insect infestation.  Soil fracturing involves using an instrument which shoots compressed air into augured holes in the tree's root zone.  Our experienced staff can properly break up the hard pan of compacted soil to help relieve the tree of these stresses, which improves the tree's vigor and health.

Bark Tracing

Tree wounds or damaged bark weakens trees and leaves them susceptible to decay, disease and insect infestation.  Most often, the wounds are caused by lawn mowers, edges or by being hit by a vehicle.  Bark tracing, an operation which involves cutting out bad or weakened bark, allows new tissue to callous over and the trunk to properly heal.  Done accurately, this procedure will enhance the health and vigor of your trees.
